For each data logger certified, a certificate is provided showing the data logger's temperature accuracy versus a NIST traceable standard.

Certification is available for all standard HOBO temperature data loggers, including both new data logger purchases and data loggers already owned.

Temperature points used for certification are user-selected and can be specified in 1°C increments from -30°C to +120°C. The actual points used for certification will be ±0.25°C.

Certification is also available for multi-channel data loggers, however only for the temperature channels.

Susquehanna University has been trialing a series of beaver dam analogs in an ephemeral stream located at the Center for Environmental Education and Research Field Station for the past year. Early results indicate that the dams are effectively slowing the flow of water and improving stream conditions, but there have also been some unexpected results. “There was more complexity—more erosion and deposition in places that we weren't expecting close to the structures, both upstream and downstream,” explains Siobhan Fathel, Assistant Professor at Susquehanna University.

Buffalo's New Data Buoy Tracks Lake Erie's Extreme Weather

Buffalo, New York, perches on the eastern shore of Lake Erie–the shallowest and smallest of the five Great Lakes by volume–and sports an enviable waterfront vista. There will soon be a new, semi-permanent observer to the lights of the Buffalo skyline. For over a decade, the Great Lakes Center at Buffalo State University has operated a data buoy in Lake Erie’s eastern basin. Its data, which is publicly available via the Seagull Network , is popular with anglers and boaters in Western New York. In Spring 2026, it will be joined by a sibling–another buoy deployed near the city of Buffalo–with the aim of filling data gaps and providing a valuable public resource.
